A sunny day on the Allotment ๐ŸŒž

In Allotment, Blog, Fruit trees, Jobs, Veg Growing

A lovely sunny day, unless you were standing under the shadow of the huge conifer proudly overlooking us !!

More work done in preparation for the growing season. A trench was dug and filled with compost and leaf mould in preparation for the sweet peas. The strawberries were tidied by removing the old leaves, and cutting back the few buds that had developed. A feed of chicken manure pellets was scattered. This will encourage new growth and an abundance of delicious strawberries for our consumption – if we can stop the rabbits getting there first!!!
Paths were weeded and woodchip laid down, now looking very smart. We were flat worm hunting again – thankfully the search was fruitless! Plastic was put over the potato bed to warm the soil before planting. Put ash from last week’s bonfire around the fruit trees and bushes. We lit another bonfire -nothing like going home smelling like an Arbroath Smokie!!
Jobs for next week
ย
Prune the Saskatoon
Weeding around the Hazels
Weeding paths and around the external border.
