Bridgend Demonstration Allotment Open Day – Sunday 24 August
Once again we had a fine and sunny day to welcome our visitors. This year we had for the second time Japanese vegetables to show off, the Biochar trial is in its second year so a chance to see what differences there are in the two beds, and for the first time we are growing quinoa plants which are now doing well despite a difficult start.
George Anderson had a very appreciative audience for his workshop of how to summer prune the fruit we grow, causing intake of breath as he did some serious cut back into the gooseberries but this is what needs done and we always have too many gooseberries – well almost.
Once again our volunteers came up trumps with making jam to sell and cakes for the teas we offer and good to have a chance to sit down and chat.
And from our generous visitors we made £130.95 for Caley funds.
