Brilliant visit to Redhall Walled Garden in Edinburgh

 In Uncategorized

A small group of Caley members enjoyed a brilliant visit to Redhall Walled Garden this evening. They were made very welcome and treated to a comprehensive talk and tour of the garden, followed by a video of interviews with some of the ‘Trainees’, plus images of the garden under snow. The trainees spoke enthusiastically of the ways in which working at the garden has helped them with their problems.

Several of the group had never visited before and had been unaware of the garden’s existence.

The Garden itself is organic and has many different features including raised vegetable beds, compost bays, polytunnels, wildlife areas, shrubs, herbaceous beds, an alpine area, ‘beach’ garden, an historic, listed brick summerhouse and even an “Iron Age”  hut roofed with turf. The garden was loud with the sound of birdsong, perhaps in defiance of “Gingernut”, the resident cat.

There was an abundance of interesting plants for sale, mainly herbaceous, all grown on the premises, in excellent condition and at very reasonable prices.

The Garden is open Mondays to Fridays from 9.0 – 4.0.

There is no charge, but donations are welcomed.  97 Lanark Road West  (near Inglis Green), EH14 2LZ.  on the Lothian 44 bus route.
