40 Years an Allotmenteer – George Anderson

1st February, 2022 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

The trials and tribulations of allotmenteering.  George will discuss gardening on a raised beach with all its railway weeds as an added bonus. The talk will cover a wide range of crops grown along with a look at their pests, diseases and other troubles. There will also be tips and hints on their cultivation.  Crops covered will be everything from spuds to spinach, not forgetting fruits and flowers as well.

George is a well-known face to Caley members. His career in horticulture started as a gardeners boy at Smeaton Gardens East Linton (back in the last century!) and he worked for a time in the Clyde valley on a tomato nursery.  He was a student on the Three Year Diploma Horticulture Edinburgh Course at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh and on completion joined the staff of the Garden. He worked at the RBGE for a total of 38 years. He is a past president of the Royal Caledonian Horticultural Society (currently Honorary President),  was a member of the Council of The Royal Horticultural Society for ten years and is well known to many as a presenter on Beechgrove, which he has done for the last 16 years.

This is an online talk.  Please register for the talk on our Eventbrite page so that we can send you a joining link. Please note: registration will close at 5pm on the day of the talk (or earlier if all the tickets are allocated).  This is to ensure that everyone is sent the joining link in a timely fashion.
