Caley Harrogate Autumn Flower Trip – 18th-21st September 2020

Overview

The trip is arranged by Strathmore Travel. We will be joining an organised trip, so it won’t be exclusive to the Caley. We do, however, have additional garden visits planned for Caley members. The long weekend will comprise:

• Coach travel from various Scottish locations
• Hotel accommodation, breakfast and dinner
• Entry to the Harrogate Autumn Show at Newby Hall
• Day trip to York or walk through Valley Gardens and Harlow Carr

Hotel

Stay in the Victorian 3* The Cairn hotel, a five minute walk from Harrogate city centre. Includes porterage, dinner, bed and breakfast. Rooms have en-suite, tv, tea and coffee making facilities and wi-fi.

Cost

For this 4 days, 3 nights trip the cost is £239 per person for double or twin rooms. As this is an open trip, early booking is encouraged to ensure a space.

Itinerary

Friday, 18^th September – Travel to Harrogate

Travel on a 49-seater coach. Pick-ups in Aberdeen, Dundee, Dunfermline, Edinburgh, Dalkeith (Dobbies) and Jedburgh.  Pick up in Edinburgh is likely to be around 12 noon. You may make your own way to Harrogate if you prefer. The cost of the trip will be unchanged.

Saturday, 19^th September – Harrogate Autumn Show & Newby Hall & Gardens

Visit the Show, which for the first time is moving to Newby Hall and Gardens, approximately 30 mins drive from Harrogate. Entry to the show and the gardens of Newby Hall is included. The Harrogate Autumn Show includes show gardens, plant nursery pavilion, floral art, food and gardening talks.

Newby Hall and Gardens has some of Europe’s biggest herbaceous flower borders and 15 stunning garden ‘rooms’.

Sunday, 20th September – visit to York or Valley Gardens & RHS Harlow Carr

A visit to York is included in the trip.

For Caley members, we propose instead a walk through Valley Gardens to Harlow Carr or, if you prefer, going directly to Harlow Carr. Entry to Harlow Carr at own cost (free for RHS members).

The Valley Gardens are English Heritage Grade II listed and contain the greatest number of mineral springs. Harlow Carr is set in a valley of 68 acres, from running and still water to woodland and wildflower meadows, a kitchen garden and alpine house.

Monday, 21st September

Return by coach to Scotland or own arrangements if preferred.
