Caley Norfolk Gardens Tour – cancelled

Unfortunately,  in view of the ongoing situation with Covid-19 and to ensure that we are following the current safety advice, we have decided to cancel this trip.  If you have already booked, you will have received an email outlining the situation.  If you have not received the email, please contact Rona at rona.mcdowall@hotmail.com.

Booking Information

The tour includes coach travel, all arranged garden visits, tours (please find details of gardens visits and tours below) and refreshments, 5 night’s hotel accommodation, breakfast, dinner, and holiday insurance.

Our hotel is the 3* George Hotel BW Signature Collection by Best Western. All rooms are non-smoking with en-suite facilities, are equipped with a hair dryer, flat screen TV, complimentary toiletries and tea and coffee making facilities.

The coach departs Edinburgh early on the morning of  Wednesday 17th June and returns Monday 22nd June in the early evening. Precise pick up and drop off locations will be confirmed after booking. If you prefer to arrange your own transport, you could fly direct to Norwich from Edinburgh with Loganair. The hotel is just 15 mins from the airport by taxi. Alternatively, by train it takes approximately 6 hours, with a change at Peterborough.

You can book by completing the booking form that can be downloaded here or you can make an online booking below. Single room availability at the hotel will be on a first come, first served basis. Once the single rooms are booked, we’ll confirm alternatives on a case-by-case basis.

Please confirm your booking no later than 17th April 2020. If you are downloading the form, please send it, along with a with cheque payable to RCHS, to: Rona McDowall, 7 Traquair Park West, Edinburgh, EH12 7AN. You can choose to pay a deposit immediately with the remainder to be paid in full by 30th April 2020. Refunds for bookings cancelled after 31st March 2020 will be based on any financial commitment already incurred by the Caley.

Garden Visits and Tours

Potterton’s Nursery, Lincolnshire – Visit en route to Norwich. A large range of alpines, dwarf bulbs, woodland plants and 5 acre garden. Any purchases made at this visit will be collected on our return journey.

Hindringham Hall – Private access to this Grade 2 Tudor manor house surrounded by a medieval moat, includes a walled vegetable garden and a Victorian nut walk.

East Ruston Old Vicarage – Notable privately owned garden covering 32 acres with rare, exotic, unusual and hardy plants, innovatively planted in a formal design.

Gooderstone Water Gardens – From damp meadow, retired farmer Billy Knights created a 6 acre water garden with natural trout stream, ponds, waterways and bridges.

½ day free to explore Norwich with the option to visit local gardens.

Norfolk Lavender – Holder of the National Collection, 70 acres of lavender are cultivated plus some rosemary. Includes a tour and cream tea.

Sandringham Estate – Visit to the country retreat of Her Majesty the Queen. Includes an optional tour of the 17-acre walled garden.

Peter Beale’s Roses – Specialising in old fashioned roses. Includes a tour of the 2 acre display gardens, refreshments and practical demonstration.

Bressingham Gardens – Alan Bloom’s dell garden, with 48 beds, almost 5,000 species and varieties of perennials from all over Europe in an open landscape covering 6 acres.
