Lecture -“Amisfield Walled Garden – a community restoration project”. Kate Rycroft, Chair – Amisfield Preservation Trust

Kate trained in Plant Ecology and Landscape Architecture, practising as a Landscape Architect for 18 years, working on a diverse range of projects in both the private and public sector. She has been involved with the restoration of the garden from the outset and has been Chair of the Trust for the past 10 years.
Amisfield Walled Garden, near Haddington, of 8 acres in size, is one of the largest walled gardens in Scotland. Built in 1783, it once formed part of the policies of Amisfield House, home of Francis Charteris, 7th Earl of Wemyss. The garden is being restored and developed by Volunteers of the Amisfield Preservation Trust, a charity set up by local people. Over the past 12 years it has been transformed from a neglected wilderness into a thriving community garden, providing opportunities for learning, recreation and well-being.
Our talks are free to Caley members and to students (just show your student card at the door). Visitors are very welcome to attend. All we ask is that you make a donation to The Caley at the door.
Our talks are held in the Lecture Theatre at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. Entry is via the main reception on Inverleith Row.
