Wipeout & Rewilding – Rob Dewar, NTS

19th October, 2021 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

‘Wipeout’ is an NTS project funded by the Peoples Postcode Lottery and NatureScot Biodiversity Challenge Fund. It is part of the NTS conservation objective to remove or control INNS (invasive non-native species) across several NTS properties. Invasive species included in control work are  Rhododendron ponticum, skunk cabbage and Japanese Knotweed amongst others.

Controlling INNS is about removing species that are negatively impacting on native habitats and biodiversity. Rewilding broaches the subject of reintroducing species that have been removed from the ecosystem. The talk will discuss the terminology of rewilding – (what does it mean?); the conservation benefits and also the controversy surrounding ‘rewilding’.

Rob has degrees in Environmental Science and Countryside Management. He spent several years working as the Head Ranger at the NTS properties in Wester Ross and now works as the Natural Heritage Adviser for the NTS,  a post he has held for 12 years. He also is a member of the Highland Biodiversity Planning Group and is the Chair for the Highland INNS Forum.

This is an online talk to be held on the Zoom platform.  Please register for the talk on our Eventbrite page in order for you to be emailed the joining link. Please note: registration will close at 5pm on the day of the talk (or earlier if all the tickets are allocated).  This is to ensure that everyone is sent the joining link in a timely fashion.
