Holyrood Park Wildflower Walk – Tuesday, 5th May

An early evening wildflower walk at Holyrood Park, led by Stan da Prato. Gentle walk into the main grassland at Hunters Bog. Our main target will be the rare adder’s tongue fern we missed last year as the other vegetation had overgrown it, thus our earlier date. Redcroft Open Garden, Sunday, 10th May

Caley members Anna and James Buxton are again opening their garden as part of Scotland’s Garden Scheme. As last year, money raised will go to the Caley Greenhouse at Saughton, so do go along and support Anna and James and help with fund raising for the greenhouse. North of the Clyde Day trip – Saturday, 16th May

Glenarn is a private garden, largely created and made famous for its collection of species rhododendrons by the Gibson family. This garden was established in the 1920s and 30s, overlaid on the original Victorian layout, with some remaining trees and rhododendrons from the 19th century. The garden lies in a protected hollow, falling to the south and west, with a steeply sloping Himalayan glen running its length and providing shelter for large-leaved and tender rhododendrons. Aberlady Wildflower Walk – Sunday, 14th June

A day at Aberlady Bay, which is a Site of Special Scientific Interest for plants as well as birds. Led by Stan da Prato, who knows the local flora and fauna well. We’ll see a variety of coastal flowers, aiming particularly for five species of orchids. Depending upon weather we hope to see butterflies as well. The morning visit will be to a garden yet to be confirmed. We’ll provide information in due course. This will be followed by a soup and sandwich lunch. Caley members Margaret and David Teale are opening their garden from 11am-4pm in aid of the Multiple Sclerosis Society and The Caley Glasshouse fund. Margaret and David moved to St Boswells in 2017, starting work on the garden in autumn 2018. They have created a peaceful garden with water; a vegetable, herb and fruit area and herbaceous borders.
