RCHS Grow & Learn Award Ceremony – Ellon Academy

On Friday 21st September, pupils at Ellon Academy were excited to welcome Jim McColl, former Caley Honorary President and presenter of Beechgrove Garden, to their memorial community garden.  Jim was there to present the awards at school’s RCHS Grow & Learn award ceremony.

Support-for-learning teacher and coordinator of the school garden project, Susan Swallow said: “Pupils have worked very hard over three years to achieve this award as it requires 80 hours of hands-on gardening.  They have learned about seven topics as well as working towards personal goals unique to each individual.  I see them growing and maturing as they continue to build and maintain our garden – giving up their own time as well as attending for classes.  They love working outdoors and learning about plants.”

They were thrilled that Jim took the time to visit the garden and meet them.  Jim said: “I’ve seen some of the work pupils have been doing here and it is stunning”. He also wished pupils the very best for their future.
