Spring Bulb Shows

The Caley holds an annual Spring Bulb Show at Saughton Park in Edinburgh. This is a fun event that is open to all, with a variety of categories to enter. So, if you are an experienced exhibitor, are just starting out in your competition career or simply want to look at some beautiful blooms, join us for an interesting weekend.

The Caley is keen to encourage growers of all ages.  To encourage young gardeners, we have a junior section in the Spring Bulb Show open to those under 16. We also hold a separate competition that is open to schools and youth groups, called the Junior Groups Competition. The Junior Groups competition is held in the John Hope Gateway, Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh.

If you have any questions about either the Spring Bulb Show or the Junior Groups Competition, please contact us at springshow@rchs.co.uk.

Virtual Spring Shows 2020

Because of the ongoing situation with Covid-19, The Caley decided this year to hold a virtual show for both of its spring shows – the Junior Groups Competition & Show and the main Spring Bulb Show. The entries can be found on our Virtual Spring Show page

About the show

The Caley Spring Bulb Show is a fun event that is open to all, from the novice to the more experienced, with a range of categories to enter. Whilst daffodils  do feature prominently, there are opportunities to enter with other spring bulbs, including tulips, hyacinths and fritillaria. Don’t worry if you have never shown before, we are always happy to help, and it is great fun!

We are keen to encourage young gardeners to enter the show and have a variety of classes that they can enter.

The Caley is fortunate to have the support of specialist daffodil growers Quality Daffodils (R A Scamp) in Cornwall and Esker Farm Daffodils from Northern Ireland, both of whom sponsor a special class in the schedule.

Members of the Caley can help support the show in different ways. If you don’t want to enter the show, why not visit the show or spend a couple of hours volunteering?  If you would like to volunteer, contact Caley Administrator Julie Muir: administrator@rchs.co.uk.

Junior Groups Competition

Whilst we have a Young Gardeners Section in the main Spring Bulb Show for individual exhibitors, The Caley also has a special competition aimed at schools and youth groups. Any school or youth (cubs, scouts, brownies etc) group can take part. This competition is fun and light-hearted and the children all enjoy taking part.  As well as pots of daffodils, the groups can also enter a competition for their artwork.

The Junior Groups competition is held in the John Hope Gateway at the Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh and is open for the public to view all the entries.  We also have other fun things to do such as planting, seed sowing and craft activities.

If you would like your school or group to take part in next year’s competition, please email: schoolspringshow@rchs.co.uk.

Jim Davidson trophy

The Caley Spring Bulb Show forms part of the Jim Davidson Trophy. This competition commemorates the late Jim Davidson from Banff.  Its aim is to encourage people to grow daffodils from Divisions 1-4 and show them in as many of the five participating Scottish Shows as they can.

If you would like to know more about the Jim Davidson Trophy, please contact springshow@rchs.co.uk
