Wildflower meadows

There are many misconceptions about meadows. The term is best kept for perennial planting with a grass base. Displays of annuals such as cornflowers and poppies are not meadows. Resist the temptation to plant or sow until you see what is already in the ground. Any area of grass is potentially a meadow. Reduce mowing but do take off the cut material. What come s up will depend on your soil and location.  Having paths through the longer grass is appreciated by walkers who don’t like wet feet on damp mornings.
