George shows you how to stake Hyacinths

 In Bulb growing, Spring Show

In response to a request here are a few photos showing how I stake my Hyacinths.

I go round the pot, lightly pressing the flower spikes into the vertical and firming the compost around the base of the bulb.

Next insert three stakes as close to the bulbs and flower spikes as possible.

Gently feed the stakes in between the individual flower pips (sometimes this is all that is required and gives the pot a more naturalistic look.)
On this occasion however the foliage is a little lax and I have put a string around the stakes just to keep the foliage upright. Come the day of the show I will remove the string.

Finally, trim off the stakes below the level of the topmost flower pips and keep the pot well watered.

Job done
Hope this helps.
George
