Gentiana 'The Caley'

Why Join

The Caley is Scotland’s national horticultural and gardening society actively supporting and promoting horticulture and gardening in Scotland.

In 1809 the founding members of the society shared a common goal to encourage everyone to grow, sharing learning and expertise about ‘the best fruits, the best flowers and the most useful vegetables to grow in Scotland’.

The Society continues to bring together people who share a common interest – horticulture and gardening in Scotland.

We support all aspects of horticulture and gardening often working in partnership with others to reach as wide an audience as possible.

Charitable aims:

To inspire, encourage and improve the science, art and practice of horticulture in all its branches. To advance education in gardening and horticulture for the public benefit, the environment and sustainability

Volunteering

We have many opportunities for members to volunteer.  We have regular volunteering days at our Saughton Park base – currently Monday and Friday mornings.

As well as the teaching garden, The Caley working glasshouse, the demonstration garden, the Winter Border and the long walled border we also help to maintain other areas.

There are always opportunities for members to become involved at Saughton Park. Perhaps take part in a ‘Dig Day’ or help out at a plant sale. The more members and volunteers we have the more we can offer, as well as increases the scope for  activities outwith Edinburgh.

There are also opportunities to volunteer at the many events that we attend such as the Scone Palace Garden Fair.  Keep an eye out for email updates about these opportunities.

You could volunteer at the Caley Demonstration Allotment (Thursdays),
