It may be cold and frosty (even some snow) but….
Cast your mind back to 2018! The Caley had just been given special permission from the contractors undertaking the restoration of Saughton to access the park which was not yet open to the public. We wanted to plant a Winter Border to ensure there was something to see in the park all year round. Jasmin Cann, a Caley Council member, had been involved in the planting discussions for the redevelopment from the very early days and was keen to have a Winter Border. (Gardens do not need to be boring in Winter!)
The areas chosen was not an easy one!
Jasmin set out her vision.
We approached members for plant donations and also received help from the Stanley Smith (UK) Horticultural Trust and on 19thNovember2018 had our first dig day.
Mainly preparing the ground but also a little planting. Deferring the main planting to the beginning of 2019. It was great to have the support of Caley members and of Friends of Saughton Park all keen and working hard – yet still enjoying themselves.
By March 2019 the main planting was complete and snowdrops in the green were gifted to us and planted. (Its the best way to successfully plant snowdrops.

It didnt take long for things to come to life over the next few years.
Why not visit and see for your self!
