Autumn on the Allotment
A day mostly spent picking – autumn raspberries; runner beans; dwarf French beans and corn. We also dug up carrots. The wonderfully coloured red Borlotti beans and the Black Pod beans are being left to dry for winter use.
The onions were checked through for any going soft and this will be an ongoing weekly chore for these, the potatoes and apples. Last week we had a bonfire and turned all the prunings into useful wood ash and the remaining potatoes were dug up – Pink Fir Apple and King Edward.
Jobs for next week
- Clear the yellow leaves from the brassicas
- Cut the grass
- Keep the hoe going
- Weed along the north edge
- Keep fruit picking
