Biggar Bothy and early colour

 In Biggar Bothy, Blog

Don’t you love the colour orange? It glows at this time of year, whether the sun is shining or not. And this year, generally it hasnt been in Biggar.

Orange is such an uplifting colour, here I see it against the greens of winter, or the muted garden colours before everything springs to life with a multitude of other colours.

Hamamelis ‘Orange Peel’ is thriving in my shady lower garden. It is going over now, but has been flowering since December. It likes a deep rich loamy soil.

Crocus gargaricus under a Thuja ‘Whipcord’. An odd little one as some of the varieties spread by underground runners. I expect I bought these as corms a couple of years ago, they seem happy in this well drained bed, but I shall mulch them as, in the wild, they like a moisture retentive soil.
