George has planted his bulbs!

Off we go once again on the exciting path to the Caley Spring Show 2026.

I planted all my bulbs this week. Most are in 2 litre pots so that I can show some as potted bulbs and others have been planted in larger pots where I am just looking for single flowers for the Cut Flower classes. I used a mixture of garden centre compost mixed with extra leafmould and of course a secret ingredient in the hope that prizewinners will emerge.

The planted pots have been consigned to the plunge and covered with a layer of old compost. They will remain there until Valentines Day which is when I usually lift them. The bulbs may look inert and lifeless at the moment but over the next month or so they will start to develop their root systems. My own pots of bulbs are traditionally lifted on Burns Night, 25 January .

Make sure you read the Show Schedule and use the correct size of pot for your prizewinning exhibits.
Happy pottering
George
