Janice has been part of Edinburgh City Council Inch Nursery team since 2005 and became Team Leader in 2019. At the nursery Janice manages a small staff team but does much more. After a successful campaign to prevent the reclassification of Inch parkland and the nursery land as brownfield development, Janice has been instrumental in introducing community gardening spaces. Now three community groups, with their own leaders, come weekly to grow and harvest vegetables. Under Janice’s leadership the nursery shop has expanded. Selling high quality plants, fruit bushes, trees, shrubs, bulbs, gardening supplies and quality composts, again supported by volunteers. She has introduced the provision of public recycling collection of plastic plant pots and trays and the collection of unwanted tools for restoration. Janice has helped to extend horticulture within in the community, whilst continuing her day job responsibilities ensuring plant growing in Edinburgh for Edinburgh.
