Stay focused – it is just a week to go!
The garden is ablaze with flowering daffodils at the moment I have an eye on the weather forecast and stress levels are rising . There has been little frost, some strong sunshine and hardly any rain. All in all it has been for me, a difficult growing season for the Caley bulbs.
The pot of tulips have still to put up their flower shoots so for the coming week they will sit in the sunshine on the south of the house. The Hyacinths meantime are really past their best but with luck one of the flower spikes might make it to the cut flower section of the Show.
The pots of Scamp Challenge bulbs are in full flower. Only one good flower is needed for the Scamp Challenge Class at the show and with luck I might find one that is suitable. Many of the flowers have nicks on their petals unfortunately.
The pot of Halloon is showing some good well formed flowers and the colour of the corona is quite stunning. Ballroom Queen the double daffodil has a number of open blooms but it needs a week of good weather to expand the petals and get the flowers fully opened.
The variety ‘Teal’ has produced some good bicolor flowers, pale lemon yellow fading to white and is certainly one to grow again. Precocious is now in full flower. Because of its colour, I will keep it in the shade as I think that the colour will fade if it is exposed to full blown sunshine.
This year because the season has been so mild and flower development has been so rapid, many of the flowers have nicks and notches in their petals which is so annoying when one is preparing flowers for the showbench.
Only one week until the show now, stress, excitement and tension rising by the day.
Stay focused and see you at the Show.
