All change on the Allotment
Thursday saw the Allotment Team clearing the annual flower bed into which the blackberry will be moved and a start was made on cutting down one of the hazels. This space will be used for the honeyberries. This in turn will give us more growing room for vegetables. Things on the allotment are never static.
The rhubarb plants are all of a good age so they were dug up, split and left on the surface to allow the frost at them. We shall replant the newer outer parts of the plants in a couple of weeks and should have stronger plants next year.
The kale plants have once again a colony of white fly so the enviromesh cover was replaced by netting to allow the cold weather and frost at them in the hope that helps to control them.
Save the date: We are planning a winter fruit pruning workshop at the Allotment on 26th February 2023. The workshop will be led by George Anderson. We will be taking bookings in the New Year.
