Bright but chilly on the Allotment

 In Allotment, Blog

Well, the sun was shining on Thursday, but we had to be energetic to keep warm so no changes there. Our comfrey has been disappearing in a sea of Innula, Helianthemum and Valerian so we had a good clearance of the bed. We topped up the bins of leaves and did a much-needed tidy of the shed.

Leeks

The leeks, which we buy at the National Vegetable Society stall at Gardening Scotland, have grown very well this year and it’s time to start enjoying them. We still have plenty of potatoes, onions and Jerusalem artichokes as well as the apples and are sharing these with the Bridgend Farmhouse cafe.

Our rhubarb just keeps on growing.

Jobs for next week

  • Yet more weeding
  • Start to mulch the beds with the new leaves
