Grow & Learn Award Ceremonies

Ellon Academy, Aberdeenshire 

Pupils were thrilled to welcome  former Caley Honorary President, Jim McColl from the BBC ‘Beechgrove’ programme,  back to the school garden to see the fruits of their labour over the last year and to celebrate achieving their Grow and Learn Award.

Sue Swallow, Additional Support for Learning teacher, said ‘I am very proud that these youngsters have completed their award. It is a fabulous recognition of their hard work and commitment to working outdoors with plants and crops, caring for the soil and recycling waste by composting in different ways. Grow and Learn is however about so much more – teamwork, confidence building, self-esteem and personal development too.’

Banff Wheelbarrow and Eden Project, Aberdeenshire 

A total of nine gardeners have been working incredibly hard over the past year developing their horticultural talents and achieving their personal goals. To mark their outstanding achievement, the team were very proud to be presented with their award by Carol Baxter from the BBC ‘Beechgrove’ programme. A special thank you to Colin Stirling, our Grow & Learn verifier, for his ongoing support to the projects and arranging the day. Also to Andy Logan, the project co-ordinator, for facilitating the learning and ensuring everyone achieved their award.
