Planting Time on the Allotment

 In Allotment, Blog

The good weather is continuing and with the sun warming up the soil, it is time to start planting. This week the onion sets – variety ‘Red Baron’ – and shallots were planted out in ground which had compost added. We put a barrier around the bed to stop the rabbits nibbling the new shoots when they appear.

Work continues on repairing the willow windbreak and we had another bonfire and will need one more to clear the last of the prunings and dead wood.

It was a lucky day for us being onsite when a landscape gardener delivered a pile of woodchip for allotment users, so our paths had a much-needed top-up.

At the woodchip pile.

Jobs for next week

  • Finish planting the onions and garlic
  • Dig in the green manure on the sweet pea bed
  • Another bonfire
