Preparation time on the Allotment

 In Allotment, Blog, Veg Growing

Thursday saw some solid weeding done as the ground is prepared for the start of the growing season. We also started on wiring up the soft fruit which has been moved to new areas. The saskatoon was watered along with the honeyberries, which were also moved. These moves have released more space for growing vegetables. More daffodils are in flower and irises are popping up.

Some new (to us) varieties of potatoes were bought at Potato Day at Bridgend last Sunday and with the order from FEDAGA due this coming week, they will be set to chit in a cool bright place indoors until the weather warms up. Putting down plastic on the bed the early potatoes will be planted in will help warm up the soil and kill off the weeds as well. The last row of parsnips were dug up today and there are still leeks, kale and Jerusalem artichokes aplenty.

Jobs for next week

  • Bonfire
  • Continue with the wiring
  • Weeding
