Calm before the heavens broke on the allotment

 In Allotment, Biochar trial

A dry start yesterday on the plot and then the rain came on in earnest, but before we left we did manage to get the grass cut again, beetroot plants put in, more weeding done and more staking done for the peas.

The comfrey, used as a green manure, has grown very well and is ready for its first cut. The leaves can be added to the compost heap, piled directly on the soil, we would put them round the fruit bushes, or put in a container with water to make up a liquid feed – evil smelling but a very useful fertiliser.

Jobs for next week

We shall be at Gardening Scotland setting up our entry of Japanese vegetables for the pallet garden competition but there is always weeding to be done.
