Online talk: Feelgood Factor in a Flowerpot: Therapeutic Gardening and the work of Trellis

1st December, 2020 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Join our speaker, Fiona Thackeray, as she presents an overview of how gardening affects human health and the ways in which we can harness its many benefits to help people improve their health, wellbeing and quality of life. Did you know gardening can be used to help with recovery from depression, strokes and even viruses? Find out about all it’s fascinating effects on your health and learn about some of the amazing people and projects using gardening as a health intervention all around the world.

Fiona Thackeray has been working in therapeutic gardening since 1994 in the UK and the Tropics. She helped set up Trellis in 2006 and before that worked for Thrive. Earlier still she built a garden with visually impaired students in Rio de Janeiro state Brazil, preceded by a stint in Bristol gardening with adults with support needs and mental health problems.

In 2019 she was awarded the Dr Andrew Duncan Medal by the Caley and later that year she published a new book, Plastic-free Gardening, with all proceeds to support Trellis.
