Message from George about the week ahead!

In Blog, Bulb growing, George Anderson, Spring Show, Uncategorized

Just less than a week until the show, and although there has been a light breeze, mild air and sunshine for the last couple of days we may be due some more cold weather in the coming week –  EEK!!

However some Daffodils appear to be flowering in gardens,  after just one week of slightly warmer days, longer light and a little sunshine.  But now is the time to take stock and work out what to do if there is another cold snap.

First:

  • Get out and cut some Daffodil buds from the clumps in your garden, bring them indoors and put them in a vase where they will open and be ready for the Show on Saturday.

Second:

  • Look to see what houseplants you might be able to bring to the show.

It has been a difficult season so we all need to make an extra effort to fill the benches and give the public some blooms to see.   See you at the Show.  (More on the Caley pots of bulbs on Monday.)

Pam (in her role as show co-ordinator) says:

Many of you will have struggled to get blooms to what you might think is the right stage!  But what if everybody thinks that way.  We need your blooms, your house plants, your Cacti, your Alpine plants and your Floral art.  DO NOT think your plants are not up to scratch.  The Caley’s aim is to encourage everyone to grow in Scotland – and this means in both in the easy years and some which are more challenging!

We are all keen to see any sign of Spring!  Bring what you can – we will help sort out where to show what!  Anyone can enter the show – so get your thinking caps on.  See you there.
